Chewable Pill question

Randy has some anti-anxiety OTC pills, Pet-Eze. They are chewables. Yesterday's T-Storm was violent and Randy wouldn't chew the tablet so I put in in the back of his mouth and he swallowed it whole. When tablets are chewables, what happens, if anything, when they are swallowed whole?
 
The same as when its chewed, the stomach acids will break it down. I don't think its anything to worry about, at the worst it may take slightly longer.
 
Like the above post - the meds will be broken down by the stomach acids. The only reason for chewing them is that they would act quicker than if they had to be broken down.
 
Smudge was given his tapeworm pill whole (that was a longo time ago). They opened his mouth, and...down the hatch. Next day he was more or less good as new. :yes:

Smudge also swallows his heartworm pill and flea pill whole. He got mad one day when he saw me giving Fluffy a "treat" (flea pill). He went mad. So the next month I gave him his "treat" for being a good boy on the grooming table - his heartworm pill. Swallowed it whole.

Oh like you've never pretended your dog's heartworm and flea pill was a treat. :rolleyes2::lol:

I also confess to giving it as a treat once for doing a "sit".

The truth is out. I'm in trouble now. :lol:
 
McKinley never chews those chewable pills either. He inhales them.

And yes, he has to sit for his heart-worm pill. I consider it a treat.
 
I use the Pet-Ez for Jasper,when we ride in the car with him.They seem to at least take the edge off his motion sickness.I do have a prescription (Cerenia) but for short trips to park etc,I don't use them.

He will not swallow it whole.I have to break it up,and feed it as a treat,or crush it,and put a dab of canned food and feed it that way.
 
Sca eats all pills. Crunch crunch and they are gone. He goes wild for heartworm pills but more surprising his vitamin calcium one (on advice received here I have been giving him one). He gets the one every day so you would think he would get it figured. Of course the meat wellness treats rate a bark and semi spin :lol:
 
I am totally guilty for giving pills as 'treats'...I had to or Kaylee would pick them out of her food. It got so ridiculous that the word 'medicine' now gets the same response as 'treat'.
