Clear brown discharge from just one eye

hi everyone my almost 2year old sheltie, Prince, has a discharge from time to time from only ever the same eye. I'm not sure what it is and then it goes ...then comes back after a couple months and lasts for about a week or so....Prince has no other symptoms only a brown discharge.....does anyone know what this might be? Thanks so very much

I find when Tully gets discharge it's usually from hay-fever. That might be the same with Prince and explain why it comes and goes. I've found, even though it's winter, all this rain we're getting has made something come up and Tully's (and my) hay-fever has picked up lately.

Caro's guess is a good one. Also somewhat common in shelties is distichia. It's where a small hair grows on the inwards on the eyelid and ends up poking a bit into their eye, causing discomfort. Just something to mention to your vet next time. Sometimes you can see them yourself and sometimes a magnifying glass helps!
