I use a harness for walks. When my dog was a puppy, I kept her little harness on (no tags) whenever I was home. This way I could quickly take her outside to potty. It made potty training a little easier or at least faster to get her outside. The harness was taken off at night and when I wasn't home.
I just don't like the pressure of a collar around the neck. My dog will spin and pull when she sees a squirrel, so I feel safer with the harness.
