constant belching

Sandy is a 7 yr old who has started "belching" at regular intervals day and night.

Vet said it's not a problem but it seems not normal to me at such a constant rate.....maybe every hour or so.......any thoughts?

HI welcome to the forums! Does you pup seem to be eating too fast and drinking as well? I know one of my speed demon dogs will do everything fast and ends up burping after he eats or drinks. Did you vet think maybe its reflux? My vet has suggested to try tagament (sp) when they have reflux issues.
 
Yes, I was wondering if there was a pattern to it. Is it after eating? Drinking? Running around? That might help narrow down what's causing it.


I know fast eating/drinking can cause that, as can eating or drinking then running around a lot.

It could also be a digestive issue if something isn't sitting quite right.
 
Chase does that too, but randomly during the day. I think it's pretty funny.
I don't think there is anything wrong with him because he eats at a normal pace, I'll mention it to the vet next time we go.
 
Saidy burps a couple times a day because she eats laying down. The other thing is are Sandy's bowls right on the floor? lifting them up so she doesn't have to lean down so much when she eats may help, set them on a small box or something and give it a try, see if it helps at all.
 
If this is something new that Sandy is doing, I'd be a bit concerned too. Have you changed the food or anything else in the regimen? If not, you might try adding some probiotics to the food. You can buy them at most pet stores or online.

Otherwise, it might be a reaction to the food or, as others have said, eating or drinking too fast. Mine usually burp after eating, but not in between unless they've been drinking water. If your dog is a fast eater, you might try slowing him down with one of the bowls designed for that.

Or, since he's 7, raise his food bowl off the floor. I always raise the bowls of my older dogs to keep them more comfortable. You can just use a thick book or two or even a box to put the bowl on, or there are dog dish holders you can buy.
