About two weeks ago, my 3-year old Sheltie, Charlie was diagnosed with something called Cornea Dystrophy. Has anyone every heard of this? Basically about a month ago I noticed that he had a bit of cloudiness in his left eye, and my veterinarian referred me to an ophthalmologist. I was just expecting allergies, so when she told me it was something completely different I was surprised. The vet basically told me that if it were left untreated, he could develop ulcers in his eyes and possibly go blind later on (so awful!)
So now I am giving Charlie two different types of eye drops (for the rest of his life), twice per day. As expected, it is almost impossible to give him the drops, but I try my best. One of the eye drops he was prescribed is called "cyclosporine." I've noticed that even after several hours of giving him these drops he is squinting his eye (he never did this before I gave him the eye drops). I guess I'm just concerned. I started giving him the drops about a week and a half ago.
Has anyone else had any experience with this eye disorder in their dogs? Also, has anyone else had experience with cyclosporine and noticed any effects after the drops were given? I'm also wondering too if anyone has had any other experience with helping to slow down cornea dystrophy with adding supplements/vitamins to their dog's diet.
