I wasn't planning on spaying Honey the first year either..but the minute she started approaching heat, and I heard all those big intact dogs around us starting to whine, I raced to my phone and could not get her in fast enough.
We went to a spay and neuter clinic a local rescue runs, and I was horrified dropping her off, drove home and felt so lost. I don't think I managed to get any work done the whole time she was there.
Than we picked her up and she was so shaky from the medication, and smelly from the surgery. I hated it and swore I was never doing it with another dog...
12 hours later she woke me up in the middle of the night, right back to her old self and wanting to play, and I calmed down. Later in the week I thought her stitches might be pulling out, and the clinic got me right in to look at them.
I was shocked...Honey practically ran into the building. She had no fear of it at all. She wasn't bothered by the girls taking her in the back for the vet to give her a quick check...didn't seem upset when she came back out.
