Dealing with mud

Urgh, it sounds awful. Thats a lot of foot washing. How do you get them across the carpet to the bath - I can see a trail of muddy little paws across the floor already.

Carrying...unfortunately. Sometimes wrapped in a towel, if they're that bad.

Our yard is mostly grass though Sca does go under the trailer which is dirt. I just have two towels by the back door at all times (Sca also likes to sleep on them in the winter). We do foot checks on wet days and the day after. He is fairly self cleaning on the dirt and then the vacuum works. Of course we have a guy level of clean sooooo

We have a natural spring that runs behind the cottage. This area is constantly muddy year round and the dogs think its a hoot to run through it. And drink from it! Yuck!

To answer your question....after they've been running through it, I leave them outside as long as possible. I've found that the mud just dries up and falls off. I don't need to hose them down. Their paws are sparkly white again in about 1/2 hour.

If for some reason I need to bring them inside earlier, then I just towel them. As long as their feet are dry, albeit dirty, they won't leave mud tracks all over the house, though you might have to do some sweeping after.

My tuppence worth

On a lighter note.....

I belong to an old-order Baptist church that holds old-fashioned "foot-washin" services twice a year.

So I tell my dad (who is a deacon) that Bela gets her foot-washin' and the Holy Ghost every time it rains.
