Derrett Seminar

I'm excited. I got into their Feb seminar. My trainer went to their last one for the entire week and loved it so much. Obviously, I train under the Derrett system. I'm excited about it. I think I'm only in one class, but considering auditing others.

Does anyone have any feedback on auditing? I'm assuming all I'm doing really is watching them work with people and dogs. I'm not sure how useful that'll be (I learn more hands on).

My folks asked me what I want for Christmas. Maybe I'll ask for them to pay for my classes. :)

On that note, does anyone know how I can find a cheap chute? Koji really needs to work on that. He freaks out that it's closed and won't even push a little. I figure if I can find something cheap, I can use it at home. The teeter is just a TAD too big. lol.

Thanks.

Going to a seminar, even if it is just auditing, can be a valuable opportunity to get out and learn.
I'm hoping to do one of Linda's here in the near future. (since I follow Linda's APHS)

Hey, congrats on getting into that seminar. I audited a Donna Rohaus seminar last year on Handling and yes, it is mostly watching what they do. But you also get to ask questions. What I learned from it was some of what NOT to do which, being completely inexperienced at the time, was actually useful.

I'm going to be taking 2 or 3 seminars with Donna again this year. She has one a month at Splash 'n Dash in January, February, and March.

As for the practice chute, I ordered a "Pack 'n Go" Chute from Clean Run, http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1297&ParentCat=335. I also have the Pack 'n Go tunnel. What I like about these is they are well made, come with a storage case (many others I looked at required buying a case separate), and are the diameter and width of actual competition chutes. The price was very reasonable.

How exciting!!! I train under the Susan Garrett 'say yes' system which is based on the Greg Darrett system. I just watched his foundation video not too long ago and have been doing the 'circle work' with Maia. It is working great.

I audited a seminar this summer - Lynda Orton Hill, and it was great. I learned so much valuable information. Tracy Sclenar is coming in January and I hope to get a working spot in her foundation class and I will audit the rest of the weekend even though it is much too advanced for me. I will still learn things by watching and listening.

Thanks everyone. For both the suggestions on the chute and giving me feedback on auditing. It sounds like everyone felt auditing was just as good. So, I'll look into auditing some of her other things. Good use of my vacation time, right?
