So I'm new on this thread, I recently got a minature sheltie puppy she will be 11 weeks in two days. I already have a minature schnauzer whos almost a year old I decided to get a sheltie for him as a playmate. Well, the lady I got my sheltie from does the shots her self, so I'm going to go back there to get the shots done. I was wondering about the deworming I know you can do that yourself, I wanted to know which one works the best. She has already been wormed 2 times, I wanted to do it again I heard the one of the best types is from safeguard which got good reviews on petsmart but mixed reviews on amazon. I also read on here its better to make the powder mixture as a paste, than I heard its good to mix it with yogurt. I wanted to know if you have any suggestions on that.
 
I'm not familiar with that particular product. My vet had recommended deworming with a product containing Pyrantel pamoate for young puppies (OTC products such as D-worm double strength 120 or Evict). Both are liquids and easy to measure for small body weights, and the pups here have always taken it from the dropper without any problem.
However the Pyrantel pamoate is for hookworms and roundworms...not whipworms or tapeworms so I guess it would depend on what parasite is a problem in your area. For here in NC, I went with what my vet recommended.
 
She has already been wormed twice, does she have worms? If not, then no need to worm again. The breeder should have had a fecal check done before you got her, so she will have that information.

When I used chemical wormers on babies (only once), I used Nemex-2.
 
I'd think you would want a vet check to check her out and make sure shes healthy no heart issues, eye issues, joint issues and have them do a fecal test while your there. If its clear no need to de-worm again. But I use evict for de-worming.
 
No she does not have any worms but the breeder recommended that we worm again 2 times. When I got my other dog now as a puppy he was all ready to go he came from petland so he was all ready to go, I can't seem to find his file of past history so I didn't know how many time was normal the deworm a puppy.
 
I finally found my dog now snoopy's record and it says that he had the safeguard one like 6 times. I thought that was kinda high is that normal?
 
No 6 times is not normal. Puppy Mill dogs will be done that many times on average due to their living conditions.
Mine are done twice, and than they are all fecal checked by the vet. Most Hobby breeders worm on average 2-3 times....
