Does anyone show?

Macies Mom

Just curious does anyone show Shelties? Macie came from a BYB I am pretty sure, but I accuired her when she was 14 weeks old from a guy who got her at 9 weeks and then had to rehome her because he was moving for his job to another state and couldn't keep her.

My Maltese are from a show breeder. I was actually going to show my Delilah, but alas, it's on the backburner for now, since I have younger children. I am waiting until my youngest DD is about 8 and would love to get her in Juniors. So in the mean time I am learning all I can about that, etc. going to dog shows and we are in the process of joining our local kennel club.

Samson is Delilah's biological baby brother and we just got him about a month ago. :smile2:

Hi, and welcome!

Quite a few of our members are involved in conformation, both AKC and UKC. A few also have some experience with Junior Showmanship, and I know Danisgoat (here on the forum) and her kids are very involved in 4-H with their Shelties.

I grew up showing Shelties in Juniors and Conformation. My mom purchased our first Sheltie when I was four, and I started showing when I was eleven. We took Juniors very seriously, and I did eighty to a hundred shows a year from age thirteen to eighteen, when I "aged out". Along the way, I worked/apprenticed for a few Collie and Sheltie handlers, and learned a great deal. Mom is still very much "in dogs", and I handle for her when I can (I live three hours away and don't have room to really keep and condition a show dog at the moment). I did 4-H as well.

It sounds like you're doing the right things to get started in showing! Having a great mentor and getting involved in a club are excellent ways to get started.

Yes I show as well, while im relatively new to showing (7 years). I was/am fortunate enough to have some great breeders help me along the way!! Find yourself a good mentor though your local breed club, they are worth their weight in gold!!!!!!

Ive had shelties since before I was born, but took a while to take it to showing. My Niece has also been born into shelties, and hopefully she will want to do juniors when shes old enough(shes 7 now). I need someone to help me in the ring:lol:

I see your in GA you missed out by one year our breed specialty!!! Hundreds of beautiful shelties all in one place!!
