Does Miko need a coat for the rain/cold?

Winter clothing

Hi all,
Indie and I live in chilly Saskatchewan. As with him and all my others before him, we find that the only thing he needs is winter boots. It helps to prevent snowballs in thier paws. He loves the snow and does not mind the cold. It can get to -40 here :uhoh: so on those days, it is out to do his business then back in. On days when it is only -10 or so, he loves to go and role around and play in the fresh snow :yes:.

cold....brrrrrr

Yes it can get really cold here. Last winter, we had a few days where it was -50+ with the wind chill (usually only happens when we get a storm). Although, thankfully, those days are rare, they sure take their toll on cars and people. Frost bite is always a big worry. We see lots of kitties that have no tips on their ears because some owner has left them out too long and frozen their ears.:mad: Dogs can suffer the same way although not seen as often.

We are lucky though, we just dress in layers, warm up our cars for a while, and run from the warm house to the warm car to some other warm place (and then book a trip to Mexico or some other warm place to get out of the nastiness :winkgrin:)
 
That brings back memories from when I lived up in Northern Alberta. I didn't have a dog at that point, but always felt so sorry for any of the animals who had to brave the weather. Although I must say the cold didn't feel as cold as it does here in Ontario, where it is so much damper.
 
damp cold

I agree. When it is a dry cold like what we get, you can dress in layers and feel pretty warm but the dampness....yikes...no matter how many layers it just seems to go through. I am not sure which is actully worse, being damp and cold or just being down right frightfully cold.

I am a big woos and prefer the warmth, hence the Mexico trips. I think Indie would not be keen on the damp as he does not really like to go out in the rain. In fact, we have a terrible time with him when it is raining and he has to go to his run.....eeeks mom...do I have to get my dainty little feet wet?????
 
Thanks for the comments everyone... I guess it's just me that's a wimp. It's sunny and crisp today... but yesterday was damp and cold and no matter how many layers I had on, I was cold!! As I was freezing my butt off, I couldn't help but wonder if Miko was cold too. I guess not :wink2:
 
Definitely no need!

I keep a towel next to the door to dry them off as they come inside.

They certainly don't need protection from the cold. When they are ready to come inside you'll know. Noses pressed against the patio door, paws lifted up like little prances

If there is alot of salt on the roads then you might consider boots...but otherwise, I just wipe their feet dry as they come inside single file...
