Dog getting sick on ProPlan???

I've been feeding my dogs Purina ProPlan for about 5 months now and haven't had any problems. But I've heard many different people talking about it making their dogs sick. All the talk is starting to make me nerves. If it was an isolated incident then I wouldn't pay any mind to it, but it seems to be a widespread thing. I'm not sure if I should switch foods or not. I was thinking about cooking for them. I don't have a very big budget and the vet bills that are coming up are starting to get a little crazy. Not sure what I should do about this. What do ya'll think?:confused2:

My dogs have been eating it fairly regular until this last bag. I thought I would give it a try,at my vets recommendation, but I still was not on board with it.
I am transitioning now to new food.

The majority of reputable show breeders have fed this food for years with no problems. (I just did a sort of survey;)
Honestly, by doing research on the Internet) you can dig up dirt on any brand out there. If your dog is doing well on a certain brand... why switch?

agreed with sheltieluvr. if your dog is fine with it and hasn't had any issues, i would not switch it. a good bit of vets recommend it including the vet/breeder/shower that i got my pup from. I feed him blue buffalo though because it's what my parents feed their puppy so makes it easier when traveling so i dont have to bring food for him

pro plan was what they recommended when we adopted our dogs from mich. sheltie rescue, too. We feed them a different food now but did start them off on it.

Thanks everyone. I kinda figured it would be alright, I just don't trust dog food companies enough to ignore bad news when I hear it:rolleyes2:. I'm glad they don't have to eat my cooking now:lol:! I would probably burn it every time!

Many dogs have trouble with corn and soy. Many breeders dislike the shredded variety of pro plan, which contains soy as they have run across problems in breeding bitches paired with soy.
All I'm going to say is do your research on listed ingredients and decide if the ingredients in this, or any food sound like something you really want to feed your dogs. Are the best sources of protein really these fillers?

I agree with HOPE. Many dogs have problems with Grain based dog foods. My Beau would itch and itch, even after coming home from a grooming session, in addition, his first poop in the the morning would be fine and then the second would be like diarrhea. I finally started to play around with his food and now he is on Acana grain free Lamb.and his wet food is Verus Chicken, I'm thinking of changing that as well. But, the problem has cleared it self up since I've switched and every one comments on how great his coat looks great

(sigh ) its sad when your dog has better looking hair than you do.

My dogs can not eat food with grains in it. Changed to merrick grain free Duck and Sweet Potato and she is doing much better no more tummy troubles and her coat looks great! :smile2:
