Dogs in Training!

Ok, I've had enough of having to beat down my dogs whenever someone rings the doorbell. I had a contractor come to my house today and the dogs were jumping all over him the whole time. I was so embarrassed. This contractor is 6 feet tall and muscled, yet Bacca was pushing him over. He was very kind, but I new that he was intimadated by the dogs.

I need some kind of sign to post at more door.

Something along the lines of "Dogs in Training, please be patient while I settle them down in order to answer the door"

I don't want to scare people away thinking that I've got killer dogs, but I do want them to understand why it might take a few minutes for me to settle my dogs before I answer the door, until I've got them settled.

On the other hand, having crazy Shelties barking is good for security, so I wouldn't want whatever message I put outside make thieves save to come in (in other words, my Shelties can be nasty if I'm not there to control them! :lol:

Any idea as to what kind of sign to post? I think humour would be good, but I still want to detract the bad people!
 
"Beware of Dog" says it all. We had border patrol type stop by our house for a friendly chat and they were very impressed with how my Danny Boy went cujo when they came to the front door and they said he sounded like a German shepherd. They said he will keep the bad guys away.
 
How 'bout "Cave canem, te necet lingendo!" (Beware of the dog, he may lick you to death), or how about just "Cave Canem!" (Beware of Dog).

I have a reproduction tile about 4"x4" that is a reproduction of one found in the ruins of Pompeii with a very realistic drawing of a very border collie looking black and white dog and the words "Cave Canem" above him. One of my most treasured posessions!

But, of course, that assumes that everyone that comes to your door knows some basic latin.
 
I have a friend with a sign at her front door that says 'please be patient, dogs in training'. She has it for the exact same reason as you want.

I have a sign on my front gate that says "watch out, shelties about" which has a cartoon picture of shelties herding a family. I put it on the gate because I have a doorbell at the gate which is padlocked and people kept asking why I stopped people from getting to the front door. Its easier for me to get the dogs under control then plus Deska can't run out on to the road. People readily understand about the dog thing and the picture of the sheltie assures people its not a big ferocious Rottie thats barking on the other side.
