Dogswell Nutrisca

I went to my local pet store and found this. I have no idea what it is or how it is. Has anyone heard of it, good, bad, etc? It seriously hit the shelves on Oct 1. The bag says it's grain free and potato free. I picked up the Lamb & Chickpea recipe. Mostly because it's 30% protein. The lowest I've seen for grain free (minus Now - which my store doesn't have). I can't find anything on this food.

Duh, didn't see this: http://nutrisca.dogswell.com/ and http://nutrisca.dogswell.com/images/nutrition.jpg

If you saw my previous post about Miko's skin and potatos, you'll understand why I got this. The other reason is because most grain foods I found have one, maybe 2 proteins listed first. The rest is about 3 grains. I wasn't sure if it'd affect him or not.

FYI. The first few ingredients are lamb, lamb meal, peas, menhaden fish meal, flaxsed, chicken fat, pea fiber, chickpeas, etc.

on the bag it says, "no gluten, soy, corn, wheat, flour, bha/bht, added steroids, antibiotics, ethyxyquin, added hormones, artificial coors, flavors, or preservatives". That's good.

Anyhow, I really like Dogswell and was looking for their other food (Vitality/Happy Hips) but saw this. Would love to hear any feedback. Otherwise, I may be giving it the first review. I figure the protein level is 10-12% less than what they were eating, so it's a start. If I need to go lower, I'll need to go grain.

It looks interesting. I may give it a try for Gypsy. I am going to call my girlfriend who owns a pet store and ask her what she knows about it. I am sure their rep would have given them a full run down on the food. When new foods come out they have a full class on them. I'll let you know when I speak to her and let you know what she thinks about it.

Talked to my friend she has heard excellent things about this food but they have not gotten it in yet. She did say she will get me some samples. If you want to wait when she gets them I'll mail you some. It may take a couple weeks by the time she would get them and I got them to you. Let me know.

Glad to hear she heard excellent things :). Strangely enough the pet store I go to already carries it (but then again, the area rep is in LA and this place is pretty well-known to carry top foods). I got the 4lb bag but they even carry the bigger bags. Maybe I could send you some samples. LOL. I think Ill start feeding it tonight and get them off of Orijen.

Oh and for those that are interested, the 4lb Lamb bag cost $12. I would assume the Chicken is the same.

It's been about a month, so I thought I'd update everyone.

It seems that Miko didn't adjust well, he had loose stools for about 3 weeks, but is fine now (he's sensitive though). Overall, things look good. They have stopped drinking so much (I was getting worried with how much water those two were consuming). Their stools are firm (and a lighter shade of brown, too funny). My hubby said they seem to be pooping more though. Koji will go once in the morning, then again on their walk (an hour later). Then maybe at lunch and after dinner. Miko will go twice (he was going once).

Everything else still looks the same so I'm happy. There's a lot less calories in this food than the others I was giving (EVO 537, Orijen 470, Nutrisca 370), so I told hubby to keep an eye on their weight.

For the 15lb bag, I paid $32.00. I was surprised about the price because the smaller bag seemed so cheap compared to other small bags of Orijen (maybe there's more food though). It's about the same price as Orijen's 15 lb bag.

Since they don't stock a lot, I have to be sure I have a lot left and not wait until they're almost out. Yikes. Because I have no idea who sells it other than that one place. That's my one con to this food. Hard to find, hard to get, and if they run out, I'm screwed.

Cheryl, glad the dogs are doing well (well, at least now they are!) You know, I didn't even consider Nutrisca because I haven't seen it anywhere around here. Not even at the three specialty stores that we go to.

Of course, the TOTW Sierra Mountain is hard to find around here, too. I had to drive 20 minutes out of the way to get it.

I haven't seen the Nutrisca either- but I haven't really looked either. The store where I have been buying TOTW has all the dry formulas so no extra trip to change flavors :smile2:

corbinam and calliesmom:

I wouldn't think Nutrisca is easy to find here either. The shop by my work is a very good one and they even carry some stranger brands like Evanger. Never seen that anywhere else, but heard of it. I was looking for the other Dogswell food, but they showed me Nutrisca, so I figured, if they carry it, I'll try it. Hopefully they'll keep carrying it. Maybe next time I go in for food, I'll ask how it's doing and if they plan to keep stocking it.

I may try the new TOTW if they stop carrying Nutrisca. But I liked the lower protein content. Otherwise, I may have to go grain. ;)

I received this on Facebook and thought I'd share:
