Ear problems

My 14 [almost] year old Burwick has been scratching his ears lately more than usual. I took a look this morning with a flashlight and found a small scab build up on one ear. It is located part way down the ear canal. What is this a sign of? I have been giving him his ear drops for the last couple days. THANKS
 
I would have the vet check your pup. It sounds like he needs a prescription med for the ear.
 
Something similar had happened with my older boy...he'd had a tick that I'd removed and then he'd gotten some irritation. I ended up having to take him to the vet and she examined him and found he had an infection (all external, nothing in canal) and prescribed an antibiotic ointment for it. I'd take him to the vet...the ointment will help the itch and make him feel much better.
