Since we had alot of new puppy owners and potential new puppy owners on the forum, I thought you might be interested in this.

Dr Ian Dunbars website, DogStar Daily is having shelter dog prevention month(prevention though training) and you can get a free downloads of his books Before You Get A Puppy and After You Get A Puppy. These are excellent books that guide the puppy owner though all the stages of puppyhood. I don't know if these are going to be available past the end of January or not.

The rest of the site is awesome with tons of articles in the training textbook, great videos and radio episodes. :smile2:

For those of you who don't know who Dr. Dunbar is: He is a veterinarian behaviorist who considered the father of positive reinforcement training, pioneer of puppy training in dogs under 6 months and off leash puppy training and founder of the APDT.

me too- thanks for the post, I've been to the site before but not recently. I just want to make sure that I do as much right as I can. having read 2 different puppy books recently, there are still differing opinions on everything. One said to let the puppy walk outside to go potty so they learn the way and not to carry them. I carry Cranberry mostly at night so he doesn't decide to go on the way. I'm pretty sure he knows where to go since he was at the back door last night talking to me- let him out and he peed. He is so smart
no bias here

Thanks Shelli!!!! It has some really wonderful information. :wink2: Godd Stuff ... for puppys and fur parents!!!

Just wanted everyone to know these downloads are still available even though it isn't shelter prevention month anymore. These books are a must read for anyone who is thinking of getting puppy and anyone who has a puppy.

The Best part is they are FREE!!!!:smile2:

YAY! FREE!! They are wonderful, thanks again Dr. Shelli!

Thanks, I downloaded these and also forwarded it to the new puppy families.

Question: there's a new ad banner at the top of the forum now; and one that keeps popping up is about Sheltie training secrets. Anyone know if this organization is on the up-and-up? They're offering free downloadable training tips and a grooming book for $1.95 shipping but I didn't bite yet due to the "and a free month of our $37 a month elite training club." I tend to shy away from the "one free month then $xx per month but you can quit anytime" offers as I've had them bill me for months even after I quit the club.

Anyway, just wondering because it did look interesting and free is a catchy word!
