Fighting/Standing in the way

I have started to insert more into the training, the NIFIL idea, especially with feeding and going outside. During the day they are separated (although I don't think that is needed with them) and when we are home we have become more careful on when and where they are allowed to be.

The main issue is getting down to the root cause and addressing it, as a lot of what I see now is symptom related. Controlling Noa's energy and need to resource guard will go along way, however Cooper also needs to relax about the situation.

The behaviorist came recommended through out vet and seems to be on the more well known in our area, so here is to hoping. I can't really let this continue and would really like to avoid rehoming Noa.

First off, I want to suggest that you never put yourself between two dogs where one or both is being aggressive. You could get serious injury yourself. Even if accidental, a dog bite can be serious.

I would suggest a spray bottle of water or a can of coins to startle and distract, then try to redirect to more positive behaviour that earns rewards and praise.

Ugh--- yup... be careful.

How did their initial introduction go? Maybe as others have suggested- separation and only supervised interaction.. taking a bit further and treating it like a reintroduction?

I'll second watching out for any alpha dominance business... before I knew better, we went to three classes where the trainer subscribed to this... Watson shut right down and hid under the chair... I'd be afraid it would make already existing behavioral issues worse. :-( hopefully your behaviorist will be great! :fl

First interaction was great, they played almost non-stop. For the first 5 months they would continue to keep playing, however there was a gradual change in Noa's behavior, so subtle that honestly I did not notice nor take action initially.

That is why I believe the root cause is either Noa's need for dominance or something happened while they were playing that has lead to a feud that needs to be ended. Because for 5 months they were nearly inseparable.
