First time at the dog park

Yeah, same thing. I think since you are doing this when she is still young she will adjust quickly. Just give her some time. Buffy is always a little cautious when she is in a new place, and she was the same in the dog park.... now she loves the dog park.

Only advice I would give is trust your instincts and you can't be too careful. I mean like 95% of the people that go to a dog park are great but that 5% can really mess things up for everyone else. I have had a few scares... a few nights a golden retriever came up to us, did a bow but would not break gaze, headed toward us and just kept looking straight at Buffy menacingly... I picked up Buffy and avoided her pounce just in time. That was scary. I know sometimes I may be paranoid when I move Buffy or bring her to the small dog pen, but I would rather be too careful. A few of my friends' dogs have been scarred (behaviorally) by the dog park.

Other than what everyone else has said, does she play with Bentley or any other dog? Mine don't have much interest in playing with other dogs. Bows would only play with Buttons. Kasey and Shadow only play with us humans. They won't even play with each other. Some of my fosters tried their best to get thse guys to play, no success.

She loves to play with Bentley. I don't know if I've ever seen her play with another dog...she hasn't really had the opportunity. I'm not sure if she doesn't want to, or doesn't know how :)

Interesting thought...that's what I often wonder about Domino. Is it that he is happy to just watch the other dogs playing or is he unsure about how to join in?

I have found that he is much better at interacting with other dogs when it is a one on one situation with a dog of similar size. So i am thinking he is just intimidated in the larger group with the larger dogs. Maybe it is the same for Lexi?
