I have read a lot about the debates for puppy shots and flea control. This is something me and my boyfriend want to be very careful about since we lost our sheltie in February unexpectedly to cancer of the spleen.
I have read that Flea Control/Heartworm combination meds such as Advantix can cause cancer. Somebody recommended
Diatomaceous Earth food grade, that can be sprinkled on food. Does anybody have any recommendations on this?
Also we have heard about the possibility of Rabies causing cancer as well lepto, and then having two of the shots given together. So much reading, so hard to understand and we are trying to get a grasp on it. I think Parvo was another one, but having friends who work in Rescue, there have been a couple of rescue organizations who have had fosters infect the households with Parvo, so to me, that is no brainer as far as vaccination is concerned.
Living in Upstate NY, flea/heartworm can be given from the end of May until about September during the warm months. Rabies is a requirement for NYS and is needed in order for the dog to be registered. And most groomers will ask for proof of rabies.
Curious to see what others think??
