I will tell you what we have done with every dog that has been in residance here,past & present.
When they are brought home,and all have been pups,except a chocolate lab we had in foster care...
Thier dishes were givin to them,and we knelt beside them,handling the food,touching,hand feeding,tsking the dish away. When folks would visit,and if we had a willing person,we asked they did the same,and that was even younger children.
By the time any kids were sitting beside any one of our dogs,they honestly could care less,who was messin with thier bowls.They would happily eat,no grumbles,no snarls,they would eat thier food as if nothing was going to harm them.
The chocolate lab I spoke of earlier,she was a dream of a dog,even though older,she had beautiful manners.
To this day,even with 4 dogs,all of these pups eat together in the same room within feet of one another.There is no surfing from one bowl to another,there is no gazing to wait to see whats left.
When they finish,and its all at differant times,they exit the room.When they come in to eat,its all of them running for thier own bowls,they never get it mixed up.
There was a time,that we had 2 fosters in care,both females.
Earnhardt would wait to eat.He never would go near his dish,till those females were done.Once they finished,he would gladly eat. I guess he was making sure his girls are going to get what they needed. If one were to approach any one of my dogs,while eating,even Earnhardt,they could care less.
I do feel its how they are brought up.Our dogs have never been food aggressive. I don't think I could have a multiple dog home,if I had to deal with food agreesion.If I did,it would be nipped quickly in the bud.
