It's fitted (meant to go on a mattress) so it fits around the corners of the tray of a 36" crate. And I put the waterproof side up so that it doesn't absorb doggy odor, but there's the soft cotton underneath that makes it comfortable yet not to warm and there's no sliding around because the corners are tucked securley under the metal pan. Definitely recommended! ( I just noticed that the link I posted has a different size advertised so if you are interested in buying one. you'll have to make sure it fits the measurements of your crate.
