Frontline Not Working!

P.S. to Danny's Mommy-

Flea dust is dried digested blood left behind by the little suckers (yuck!). To me it just looks like a scab that got scratched into flakes...

The vet and I were talking on Friday when I had Liam in for his boosters. He had been reading on the newer Advantix. He was telling me if I ever had fleas not to vacuum really well as the motion of the vacuum mimics a dog's walk and causes the fleas to hatch. I use Revolution and have not had a problem with fleas but then the dogs are not off the property.

Frontline failure and results

Hello,
I am new to the forum, but will introduce myself sometime when we do not have an emergency. We are in urban Austin, TX.
We have been using Frontline on our shelties (3 of them). They stay inside. Since spring we have been using it every 3 weeks, at the vet's suggestion, b/c we are still seeing flea dirt and occasional female fleas.
Now my hubby and I have contracted murine typhus from wildlife (possums, wood rats) visiting or hiding out under our deck! Theory is the fleas jump on our dogs, then bite us! We have been sick all month, and are facing huge exterminator charges and poisons. So much for the wildlife landscaping and refuge we have nurtured!

Please, our vet tech suggests we add Confortis (sp?) and a yard/doorway spray, but our dogs are our kids, and we can't bear the thought of poisoning them.

What does the forum suggest? Haven't heard from the actual vet, yet. Not sure how well he knows shelties, anyway.

Thanks so much! Energy slowly returning for action!

We also discovered that Frontline was not working for Laddie and Katie (San Diego, CA). My vet suggested Confortis (a chewabletab) for them instead and also mentioned that the fleas are becoming immune to the Frontline and Advantage. They've been using the Confortis for about 8 months now and I have not had any flea problems.

I know you're concerned about the safety of these preparations, but it sounds like you have a serious situation on your hands. Apparently murine typhus isn't the same variety of typhus that was wiping out besieged cities and concentration camps in WWII, but I still suspect it's not a pleasant disease to have!

Definitely go with the vet's recommendation, and consult with your exterminator, too. S/he should be able to give you some pet-safe options for keeping fleas off your dogs, out of your house, and away from you and your husband.

my dog can't seem to keep comfortis down. if i give it to him w/ food, it's just more to vomit back up. any one else have any luck getting past the vomitting? also makes me wonder how good it is for them if their bodies keep trying to reject it...
