The one bad thing about dogs are they are expensive. Medical or behavioral issues can really set you back.

Have you looked into Care Credit? It's a credit card for medical and veterinary expenses. Many veterinarian accept it. http://www.carecredit.com/

In the mean time, keep him off the couch and anywhere else he can pee and destroy something. Gate him in the kitchen or crate him when you can't watch him.

If he does have a UTI, antibiotics are not that expensive. Maybe about $20

Let us know what happens after your vet visit.
 
It sounds like a UTI. Natalie was bad for wetting on the bathroom rug and my bed until I got her on an antibiotic.
 
so its a UTI, 9 days of antibiotics. i also talked with the vet about the relapses in potty training and the needing to go so often during the day. as for relapses, he said most of the time when he's seen it and there isnt a health problem (and he doesnt think there is in this case) its because the dog wasnt housetrained at a young enough age, and it just never 100% clicks in their brains. which i think may be gizmo's problem. we got him at 6 months old and he was not house trained AT ALL. he will do really good for a few months then relapse and we have to start all over again. if this is the case are we going to have to deal with this his whole life? or is it possible that he is having recurrent uti's? i didnt even think to ask that one while in with the vet.
as far as the needing to pee so often, he checked for diabetes and its not that, thank goodness. but he doesnt know what it could be. we could have an xray done to check for stones after the infection is gone, but he's not sure if thats what it is because there was no pain when he palpated Gizmo's bladder, but he said he would do one if we wanted. other then that, he's not sure what it could be. maybe we just need to use one of those belly bands and try to work on lengthening his time in between potty breaks. any thoughts on that one? he even checked his... um... winky... to make sure there was nothing wrong there. he also expressed anal glands :ick HOLY AWFUL SMELL!!!!!!! he wiped gizmo twice, then we did it again when we got home and i still think he has the gunk on his fur! :ick we may just end up giving him a bath tonight cuz that smell is NASTY. though he said they weren't plugged, which is good.
Any thoughts or ideas on any of this stuff?

I agree with the the theory that dogs will never be housetrained if now started early enough. My dog jazz I got at 1yr, she was not housetrained or trained in any manner lived in a kennel her whole life priot to me getting her. I trained her in 2 daysto not go in the house. In the kennel took longer- 3-4 months but her would have rather died than go in my house. If she did I knew something was wrong.

Get a xray done , I can't tell you the number of dogs I have seen with stones and no pain until the stone were huge and the UTI they cause very chronic.

so do you mean you dont agree with that? do you have any suggestions on how to deal with it? also, if it turns out he does have stones, what do they do to get rid of them?

Right I don't agree sorry. Very long and tiring day here.

Cetainly he could still be having housetraining issues but just because he wasn't started early doesn't mean he can't learn. First thing is make sure you have the medical issues fully workup up and cleared up(rechecked the urine after the antibiotics alot of UTI take 3 weeks of anitbiotics and if it is not improving a culture) until that happens housetraining will be difficult if not impossible. But do go back to puppy 101 training while you are treating him.

Depends on what kind of stones are there. Some can be dissolved with diet and some you have to remove surgically
 
totally understandable about the long and tiring day. we will def be taking him back to the beginning of house training again. and thanks for the info.
