Today is Ruffles' 12th birthday! She's my only home-bred dog and I remember vividly her first days of life. She was the puppy in the weaning pen who managed to find her way out of it, either underneath or through the slats and I'd find her romping around the house. She was always my pick puppy. She had a stellar, if brief, show career, winning points in the ring and Best in Show at an all-breed match two days after her first birthday. She seemed to know she'd reached the top, because shortly after that she decided she'd rather spend her time on the couch than in the show ring.
Two years ago she had emergency gallbladder surgery and recovered well, but a recent urinary problem revealed a mast cell tumor under her tail. So she'll have surgery to remove that on the 23rd. Not the way I want her to celebrate her birthday but I'm grateful we found it and can hopefully take care of it. The same board certified surgeon who removed Misty's spleen and Flurry's tumor in her jaw will do the surgery, since it's in a delicate area and will be more complicated. I'm so grateful to have her; she's left the practice she was at but is going to perform the surgery at my vet's office. Send good thoughts and stay tuned for updates!
