Gotcha!

Water is creeping up our street. Don't think it will get up to the house, but we are watching it closely. Folks in the back part of the subdivision are not so lucky. Water everywhere!

Do y'all sand bag in those parts? We use to do that for my inlaws on their acreage to keep the river water from ruining their spread. I have filled many in my time. So unfun, but it holds back the flow. Wishing you receding waters!!!!

Too late for that, no sand bags to be found anywhere. No one was expecting this, folks that lived here from the very beginning say it has never been like this. Water is still rising, but very slowly, and is a good ways from the house. River has crested, so we are expecting a slow fall soon. We are cut off from the outside, but we have power, so for now we are in good shape.

glad to hear that things aren't too terrible where you are. I know a lot of southern LA really got hammered.

How are you today? And yes, to Calliesmom, things are absolutely awful for many, many people.

I didn't realize that you were also in Lousiana- hope that y'all are all right.
I do know people in the Baton Rouge area and outside of Hammond- haven't heard that all are ok but most have come through so far.

We are OK - Water receded yesterday to safe levels. We lost power Sunday afternoon and phone/internet yesterday. All came back this afternoon. It is really bad here, many of my co-workers have lost everything, and others are still battling to save their homes. Some have flood insurance, but most do not as they thought they were not in a flood zone. The videos and pictures are stunning, areas that never flooded have water up to their roofs. It's like Katrina all over again, so so sad...

glad to hear that things are improving where you are and that you are ok.
it is sad- I have heard that a lot of the dog people that we compete with have had issues- some worse than others.
our herding instructor is ok- she did lose a few sheep but dogs, etc are ok.
my area is not a flood zone and I haven't had water issues but I did get flood insurance after Katrina- you can just never tell.....

There are lots of homeless dogs. News reporters are stressing that everyone makes sure that their chip information is up to date. There are a lot of dog rescue videos, folks in boats specifically looking for dogs and cats that were left behind or lost in the rush to evacuate.

Some of the meteorologists have called it a 500 or 1000 year flood. Lots of lost pets and livestock. Good news though...one formal shelter allows people and pets to stay together; one people and pets are on the same site.Evacuees can visit and care for pets. Even better, for the pets, in smaller less structured or official shelters, pups are resting on church pews. Folks have learned a lot since Katrina. If you want to look at amazing pet rescues try www.wafb.com.
Sorry I have really limited internet today and can't insert links.

Riky R, glad you are dry and safe.
Stormed here again today. It needs to stop raining so I can wash Sunny's thundershirt.
