Grass allergy?

I have a coworker whose dog got swollen pads. Only thing he can think is that he was spraying the hose and dog jumping to attack it. The wet grass? Pup is recovering but won't go on grass now AND it was bad enough that he cannot let the pup either. One pad swelled enough to split.

Any experience on this? Grass was the weed Bermuda.

Yes, there is such a thing and I've had dogs who've had them, although not on the paws. The only way to diagnose it definitively is with allergy testing by a canine dermatologist but if the symptoms are mild enough, your friend should treat the pup's paws with a medicated shampoo with chlorhexidine, wash the paws whenever the dog comes inside and treat for discomfort with oral Benadryl (dosage according to weight).

It sounds like a vet visit would be a good idea though, based on the severity of the paw pad cracking. Bermuda is one of the grasses that can cause allergies.

All my dogs have grass allergies, Tully was the worst and had both cotnact allergy and hay fever all year around, Della and Kismet it's seasonal, so whatever grass comes out in the warm months - Della's is hayfever (she snorts and sneezes) and Kismet is contact allergies. Kismet has had that new injection for hayfever, but for the price it doesn't last long enough
