Handheld Wireless Fence

please reconsider...if you do not have an enclosed area for your sheltie make sure you are out with them...I cant tell you how many dogs in my state the owners have let them out to potty and the dogs were snatched by wildlife and killed. Just 2 weeks ago same thing happened to my friend who is a handler/dog trainer/and AKC Judge...his wifes dog has for years just stepped out their front door to potty and come right back in, well two weeks ago a coyote was waiting for him:no:

Oh how awful, awful awful...I couldn't imagine living with myself if something like that happened :no:!
 
I live in the city, have a small yard, not fenced in. I am not saying you can't have a dog if you can't have a fence, I just don't find these devices helpful!
Indeed I find them to be detrimental to your dog's well being... Barrier aggression, trust an frustration issues WILL happen with invisible fences and shock collars of any sort.
 
With all of the coyote attacks I think we need electrified fences (top wire only) to keep wildlife out of our yards. So much can go wrong with shock collars let alone create aggression and fear. I could never zap my Danny Boy. Heck, I have never even hit him with a paper. The dog will always be tense outside wondering if it is too close to the invisible fence. These collars have burned holes in dogs necks also. Try the collar on your neck and see what kind of a shock it gives. Our friends son did and they wouldn't put it back on the dog after that.
 
I have read a lot on invisible fences and shock collars, and decided that I would not ever use them. The manufactures of these products do state that they will not work for some dogs and could cause some emotional problems I have never hit or hollered at my dogs, so why in the world would I want to shock them. Shelties are amongst the most sensitive dogs, and I believe that could really mess them up. I have heard from a breeder that one of the dogs feared the invisible fence so much that the dog refuses to go outside. But we did put up a fence to keep the dogs in and the trouble out.
