Have you trained scent work to help with confidence?

I agree with Caro, I see it helping but no more than any other obedience class. Finnie is lacking in some confidence but he's also immature (that's more of a problem) and taking Rally classes (before all this started and before he hurt his hock) was beginning to help.
Any work you do with Mindy wether it be scent or obedience will help her build confidence but if you can get her into a beginner class (where the instructor is familiar with Shelties) would help even more.

Tell me about Finnie’s “immaturity”. I feel like Mindy is rather immature. She certainly knows basic commands and some tricks but her impulse control is really lacking. We try to work on it a little everyday. She can remain in a stay outdoors (where it’s quiet) and then come when called from 30 feet away. At the same time, inside you call her and she hides under the table hoping for a game of chase which we do not give...but, it means we either wait a long time for her or go pick her up. When you do that, she’s fine, like “oh, well”. I’m trying to make indoor recalls into more of a game for her. She keeps me on my toes!!

Finnie has been a challenge to say the least! Smart as a whip but always wants to be one step ahead always, always wants to play when I want to work with him and is always at a 7 in terms of excitement so any bit of encouragement from me can put him over the top!
I was doing crate games (Susan Garrett) with him but then he hurt his hock and all that was put on hold, he too has zero impulse control...and the barking! Lol
We've been NQ'd in Rally because of the barking lol, I can't imagine him in obedience where they really penalize lol.
Oh and he's almost 2 1/2...I'm hoping he'll settle down soon lol. But on the plus side he is a very sensitive soul, bigger than Piper and will push him out of the way so he can get all the attention lol.
They all keep us on our toes Diane! Lol
