Helicopter Parent!

I guess I was a very lucky kid. Our Schnauzer, Corky absolutely adored my sister and me. I had no idea at the time that special bonds like we had with that dog don't happen that often. I love my Fox dearly and I know he is attached to me but I do not expect the same special bond that I was lucky enough to experience as a kid with our first family dog. Every dog is different and there isn't anything in this world I would trade Fox for.
I wouldn't give up on that really special bond yet. It sounds like you have a really good foundation started! Puppy classes, dog sports and other activities like volunteering as a therapy dog team can really help to strengthen the relationship and bond between a dog and handler. There are so many fun things to do with dogs nowadays that I'm sure you can find something that both of you really enjoy and that fosters that very special bond.

Oberon. who's now 2, goes back and forth between my husband I in terms of who's his favorite person. Sometimes he's glued to me, sometimes he's definitely a Daddy's boy. Not sure what causes the switch -- and it doesn't seem to last any specific time or have to do with who feeds. walks him or gives him treats. So don't give up! It just may be your "turn" soon!!!
