I have a 5 month ol sheltie and her hair is not long, nor is her fur fluffly... Is this normal?

Welcome to the forum! I'm thrilled that we've got another addition in my neck of the woods!

I've been wanting to have Sheltie get-together here for a long time, but just not enough members to start something!

To answer your question, it would help if you could post a picture. You can use Facebook, Photobucket, Flickr or any other website to link to your photo. If you join as a Premium member for $25, you can post your pictures directly as thumbnails or directly on the Sheltie forum website.

Without pictures, though, my quick answer is that you are experiencing typical adolescent growth spurts. They get really leggy and rangy at this age. You despair that they are ever going to look normal. For some dogs it will take as long as 2 to 5 years to grow into their full coats. It's kinda like human kids....they go through the same phase of growing into themselves.

Here are a couple of photos of my Bacca at around 5 months and now at 3 years this spring.

Oh, goodness! I'd forgotten this picture! Too funny! Bacca looks positively blooming compared! That being said, we're still waiting for his coat after 3 years!

lol, I know, eh?
Toffee was really deprived in the fur department for a while there, lol
He is now three and still kinda waiting for more, but he looks a hell of a lot better now, LOL

Welcome, Sasha, and not to worry. I have pictures of Bits where she looks like a coyote put together by committee! Sometimes beauty takes time -- but charm is there from Day One!
