Hello from central Missouri

Hello all!
I have been reading posts on this forum for awhile now and decided to join and introduce myself. I don't currently own a sheltie or any dog for that matter. I grew up with a German shepherd and she was the best dog. We had to put her to sleep when she got up there in age and her I hip dysplasia became unmanageable. I have not had a dog for 5 years, moving away to college, living in small apartments and moving every year is not a convenient time to get a puppy :)
My husband grew up with a sheltie and has convinced me that this is a breed we should consider for our first puppy together. I have been doing tons of research and we have decided that when my school schedule lightens up significantly in October we will get a sheltie puppy!!!
We are super excited even though its about 8 months till we can bring a puppy home. I am sure I will have lots of questions to post :)

8 months will go pretty fast but it's useful to have the time to learn as much as possible and research. Feel free to ask away. People here are only to pleased to help:yes:

Welcome to the forums! Sounds like you are joining at an exciting time for you.

Julia (seashel) is right...8 months may seem like awhile but it's a great time to start doing your research.
 
Good luck in your sheltie endevors. I would suggest starting to look for a breeder who will have a puppy available. Some of them might have a waiting list already. I personally already have a breeding planned for November (9 months away)
 
Welcome! Glad to hear you have decided to get a Sheltie. I cannot say enough about this wonderful breed! I have had many wonderful dogs. but my Sheltie easily found his way into my heart and remained there. Shelties rock!

We have already started researching breeders. It definitely is not an easy task to find a reputable one, especially in Missouri. I hope this 8 months flies by because it will mean that school is nearly over and we will finally get to have a puppy!
