Hello from Ne. Help!!

My grandson & I were out & about when we saw this young lady was hanging & beating this dog we stopped had words with her & told me 2 take the dog. I did. Took him 2 the vet. 2 make sure he was ok. The vet thought him 2 about 8 months old that was in Aug. 2013. He is still a very scared boy. He runs & hides at very movement I make, refuses 2 go outside, walking him is like the most stubborn donkey. I have an 8 yr. old Shih Tzu, a 7 yr. old Peke, 2 cats & just got a Border Collie mix being trained 2 be my theraphy dog, I am disabled. He just started 2 play with the puppy still plays with the cats. My question is what more can I do 2 get him 2 trust me& do be a loving dog again???

What a wonderful thing you did to rescue that poor dog from an abusive owner. I do not have personal experience with rescue dogs, but do understand from what I read on the forums here, that it can be a very lengthy and tricky process to get them to trust again. From what I understand, patience and consistency are really key.

I suggest you read some of the posts in the Rescue Stories section (http://www.sheltieforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=42) especially "Tinsel's Journey" (http://www.sheltieforums.com/showthread.php?t=12991). Forum member Tagg has done some amazing things with Tinsel, and his transformation is truly astounding. He is still improving, every day growing more confident.

Good luck... I hope you are able to heal this poor dog's heart.

Sorry can't help with the retrusting part but I Totally agree with Chris You are angel. Most people would have looked the other way. God Bless what a wonderful lesson you taught your Grandson also.

Thank you so much for stepping in and stopping the abuse of this poor boy. Shelties are ultra sensitive and he may be frightened for a long time. Definitely read the rescue stories on this forum to get some ideas. It will take LOTS of patience. Make sure you don't even raise your voice to this little guy. Who knows what all he has been through.
