Hello from North Carolina!

Welcome! Boxers and Shelties do well together. Our next door neighbor has a Boxer, and all mine just love Maddie!
 
As you've probably already read Shelties are very smart, but that means they also get bored easily and when mine get bored they chase each other around and bark. One of ours is noise sensitive so she barks more than our other two put together. The reason I'm mentioning this is that you never know what sort of sheltie you'll end up with. It could be one who's calm, cool and collected, or one that is hyper and loud. Considering you're in school, have a dog and will need to care for your mother I would really think this through before pulling the trigger. Too many shelties end up at the shelter or in rescue because people with the best intentions don't fully understand what they are getting into.

I'm also a college student and aiming to buy my first sheltie puppy in May. Glad to know that it's possible to juggle dog ownership with classes haha. Shelties are, from what I've heard, a one of a kind dog. They don't need too much exercise, but fit into a healthy and fit lifestyle. I hope that you find the best sheltie for you and your boxer. Keep us updated. And I bet we'd love to see pictures of not only the new sheltie (if you so choose to buy one), but also of your boxer.
 
I apologize as I haven't been back in a while due to Lillie and classes. No worries though, I am definitely not going to get a puppy until after I graduate (Spring '13). Lillie is taking her TDI test next Saturday and we are hoping to start both rally and agility classes soon. We're also in the process of moving into our apartment!

Hi Lilies Mom

I too live in North Carolina. Where abouts do you live? I live in Wake Forest which is north of Raleigh.

I have a 4 yr old sable Sheltie. They make great company. I live in a house, but my yard isn't fenced in. They love to herd, so when he gets excited like he knows he's going for his walk he herds all over the house like crazy. But every chance I get I take him to the dog park. They are very loyal, smart dogs. All mine needs to do now is talk. Mine is a male & his name is Punch. I love him so much.

Hoping we live close in NC maybe we can get together if you'd like?
