Hello from Ottawa, Ont.

My cuddler of the group is Newton; followed by Sasha, Emma, and Figaro. Indy just isn't very interested now in being petted and he dreads grooming. He was much more loving when younger. Now he's a snorer, not a lover.

Are girls more cuddly than the boys.....no. They're all different.

Welcome to the forum. I love Dobes. I almost got one before getting my first sheltie. Alot of the same qualities.

My Ember put the letter B in the word bitch. She is a handfull sometimes. I don't think she is typical of shelties in general. Diva is a lot more laid back and even though she is high energy, and driven a lot like Phebe and has a bit of her own mind(mule gene alive and well), she doesn't have a snarky bone in her body. Diva is more than willing to tell me off if I make a mistake in agility though. As she has aged she is mellowing into a delightful girl and hard worker. Funny thing is Ember is my most serious worker. Just took a bit to get her on my side.

My boy is still more into me than the girls and he in general cares more what I think. He works for the fun of working with me "what do you need" but my girls needs incentitives. "ok what is in this for me" Having known quite a few dobes, I see the same differences. As always the individual dog may be different.

If your male dobe is typical of his breed, a girl would most likely work best with him. I don't think male dobes get along with other males that well sometimes. But you know your boy best:smile2:. My male sheltie doesn't like other males sometimes but loves all girls(he is not neutered though)

Good luck with your search.

Welcome :smile2:
we love pix- post a link when you can
My first sheltie is a girl- from rescue- very sweet but can be a little stubborn.
Next is my 'lil man'- 10 month boy- very sweet too and loves to do anything really- snuggles some but loves to play.
Then last weekend we brought home his 10 month old sister- also very sweet and a good cuddler. The pups love to play so seems like all is working out- until they all want to be in my lap at the same time

Hello from a fellow Canuck :smile2:

I can't really weigh in on the male vs. female sheltie debate as I'm brand new to the world of shelties... Our new baby "Miko" just arrived home today. He's an 11wk old sable male and is too adorable for words!!

Welcome and please keep us posted on your choice... and post pics ASAP!! :biggrin2:

welcome to the Forums, I like Doberman's a lot, I think you and a Sheltie would be a great match, they are just so eager to please and want to work! but they are smaller and easier to handle, and people aren't afraid of em lol

I have met a few Sheltie little spitfires, all very lovely girls!!! lol
