Hip pain? Hard time standing up

I second the chiropractor...mine is an hour away but well worth the trip. She adjusts Checkers every 6 to 8 weeks, and several of my others as needed. She can diagnose problems without even an xray...she was the one who found Sprite's hip displasia before any of the vets. A good one really can work miracles!

It could be a partial cruciate tear - this is what happened with Tully (she now has tears in both knees). It's not uncommon as they get older, esp in Shelties according to the ortho vet. Time will help some - scar tissue forms and give a little support. In the meantime you can either purchase a lifting brace or make one by wrapping a rolled up towel around - just to help her walk around and rest the knee. Avoid stairs and in particular, cover any slippery floors as this can def make a knee worse.

The crooked toes - has she always had that? One of Tully's feet are turned out a lot and her toes are splayed - again an issue with weak bad leg ligaments and knees, plus the animal physiotherapist said she has arthritis in her toes

Well it might be, OR he just gets the hunger pukes bein he is a raw fed dog. ;) I'm sure it does settle his stomach. I give the boys "midnight snack" (thats two small special cookies each) right before I turn out the lights to head off just this occurence. Benny still pukes up bile in the morning if I don't get up and going fast enough. Those cookies tide them over night but not forever LOL
I’d been giving them their chicken foot between 8-10 pm and 3 times in a week Piper threw up during the night. I switched them to 2 pm and he hasn’t done it since. Hence the crackers lol.

Thought you would all be interested, I changed her water yesterday and started making her food with purified (bottled) water with a pH of 7.1. Today she's already a lot better! Not back to normal, but she wanted to play more and had less of a problem standing up.

I'm going to have nightmares about this one, but live and learn, I guess :-/

I’m glad she’s feeling better! It may not have been the sodium, could be coincidental but over time the sodium could’ve caused problems. Problem with having it in the water is it would make her thirsty which would then cause her to drink more water and take in more sodium. I’m really glad we were able to help you Jason…that’s what I love about this forum!

That is weird! Although....chickenfoot is raw food so digested and out of stomach in 4 hrs, roughly. Crackers are grains and the cookies my guys get are reg dog cookies, except made with oat flour not wheat. So maybe stay in stomach longer? Just spitballin'...

Glad she's doing better today, however I hate to be the purveyor of brutal honesty, but you might want to go ahead and make that chiro appt before the next bout where she can't get up and down? There's no cure, just handling it. If that doc is a good chiro he could keep Katy off drugs and mobile for quite a while!
