Histiocytoma

Hi all- has anyone dealt with histiocytomas in your sheltie? They're benign growths, most common in young dogs, and shelties are a more susceptible breed. Apparently, they often spontaneously regress on their own. Here's a few questions for those of you who have dealt with it:

1. Did it resolve on its own?
2. How long did it take to resolve?
3. Did you treat homeopathically with something that worked?
 
Gavin had one on his chest years ago. I did the castor oil thing and it was gone within 2 weeks or so.
 
How ironic - we just took 4 year old Faith to the vet yesterday to investigate a lump above her right back foot... and the vet thinks it is a histiocytoma. She did a needle aspirate which only showed some inflammatory cells, no cancer or anything bad, thank God. We are applying an antibiotic ointment for two weeks for a slight infection (she abrades it when she does her skid stops running around). My vet said they often disappear in 3 weeks or so, so will just watch and wait.
 
Gavin has another one...tiny thing on the edge of his leg/stifle. So we are doing the castor oil thing again. Not surprising with all the stress with his leg injury and all the anti-inflammatories he has been on. Last time, it was preceeded by prednisone. So definitely any immune suppression tends to lead to these things for Gavin. we have had good luck with castor oil in the past so I am very hopeful.
