Ok How do I stop Sting from peeing on my bed. He has done it 3 times first time my fault and then last night and today. I bring him out and he pees and then maybe a half hour later peed on my bed.I told him no and put him in his ex-pen. Any hints? it has been a long time since I house broke a dog. He has been here a week tommorrow.

umm, keep him off your bed :wink2: kidding!! when my shelties were young they went out every half hour. you might just need to take him out more often.

We made an early house rule: Shelties are not allowed on the bed until they're old enough to jump up and down by themselves. That prevented injuries and saved me a fortune on Sheltie Pull-ups.

If you know that he's peeing on the bed after he pees, I would start crating him after he pees the first time. Then, take him out about a half hour after that (when he usually pees again), and if he doesn't go, put him back in his crate. If he does go again, let him run, but keep him with you or in the ex pen.

I feel your pain, Sharon! Barkley peed on two of our beds as a puppy and then again a year later after he was completely housebroken.:eek2: Even after I washed and cloroxed everything he went back. I think he's marking your bed as his territory! :rolleyes2: I don't have an answer, the only way we found to avoid it is to gate off the bedroom or close the door. Might be a solution until he's housebroken.

I vote for keeping him off the bed and furniture unless he is directly sitting in your lap cuddling, until he can be trusted to hold his pee. And of course, outside every 30-45 minutes.

Housetraining

Thanks for all the info everyone. I will be keeping him off the bed till he is completely trained . .My trainer Erin said he is to young to be on the bed anyways becasue if he falls it could hurt his joints.I forgot what it like owning a pup.

I had similar with Bacca as a young pup. I would get him up in the morning to pee, which he would do faithfully, and bring him upstairs to romp while I sipped my morning coffee. 5 minutes later he would faithfully pee and poo again....on the carpet.

I learned my lesson and learned to bring him back downstairs a 2nd time before he got the extra freedom. He was not allowed up on the bed until he had done the "full deed".

To this day, he still needs to go out a 2nd time, but I think he's just in a rush to get back inside because its COLD out there at 6 a.m. in the dark! At least, now, he tells me when he's ready to go out again!

My boy was the two timer, out, no business done, and then right back out again.

My girl? she thought the green carpet in the living-room was grass. I would purposely let her go in there after awhile just to catch her. No way little girl outside ya go. She caught on. Took a pee on my bed once and she didn't go back on my bed until she knew better. I was right there with her, but couldn't tell she was peeing when she was a wee little one.

This is not really funny, but I will never forget the day I picked her up. She took a big pee on the broker's rug, as much to say, I'm out of here, so take that. So tiny with that head stuck up in the air, and the diva look. OMG!
