How much food?

My Hanna is going to be 19 weeks on Monday and she weighs 10.1 pounds on my scale ( it weighs a bit heavier than the vet's scale). I feed her 1/2 cup of kibble per day, split between 2 meals plus some dried liver and chicken and veggie treats ( about another 1/4 cup total). she feels pretty solid when I pick her up and I can just feel her ribs - so I think she's a good weight. She stands 11.5 inches at the shoulder. According to the charts, Hanna is just on the border to being underheight and in the safe range for weight, but still inthe lower half. Looks like I may have a smaller sheltie on my hands.

Both of your fellows are going to be oversize if the charts are correct - so it makes sense they would need more food.

I meant to add that she was one of the bigger pups in the litter - her little sister was about half her size. I really was expecting her to end up closer to the upper end of the range.

They get 1/2 c AM and 1/2 c PM. Their weight is good, so I will continue what I'm Doing. The bag says 2 cups daily. My boys wouldn't eat that much even if offered!

I've come to realize that the food portions on the back of cans are a farce. I had to ask my Vet because Beau was getting stomach aches and gas from eating to much.

I give Beau a 1/4. in the morning and in the PM and I cover it with just enough wet food.

FWIW I give him Acana limited ingredient Lamb(dry) and for (wet) verus chicken

It is so hard knowing how much to feed. Riley is 7 months and about 11 lbs. I am feeding 2/3 cup a day of Earthborn Holistic Meadowfeast. I may increase to 1 cup.
