How to get them to drink more

If I need the dogs to drink more I usually take chicken and boil it in water. No seasoning added. The water tastes nice and chickeny and the dogs get the boiled chicken bits as treats!

I know someone whose dog doesn't drink plain water but will drink water with some papaya mashed into it.
 
I agree with the chicken, to add a little flavor I add about a teaspoon of chichen bouillon. I would also make a little "salad" for my baby. The boiled chicken, some green peppers, mushrooms and celery. I checked with the vet before I gave her any of these and was given the go ahead. You could also try some watermelon, I'm sure Shelby would love that too. Good luck.

my dogs love crushed ice....not the ice cubes, but crushed....I found this out by accident one day while getting the ice for my self....I got distracted and the cup of ice spilled over and onto floor..all the dogs started eating the crushed ice....so I started filling their water bowl with the ice....for one of them I add water along with the ice,to his dish as he absolutely loves cold, cold water....
 
I float my dogs food in water. Kibble is generally dehydrating, so floating it forces the water issue. Then my dogs go through an entire bowl over the evening after kibble meals. I don't have that issue on raw nights. They hardly drink anything after a raw meal.
 
mix canned doggie food with water, microwave piece of meat with water and give once water cool, add to water tbs of yogurt and tsp of honey, get a spoon of ground meat and dilute with water etc.
However there is danger in ¨overwatering¨your dog:winkgrin: Check with your vet by how much he wants you to increase water intake and measure lets say that cup in the morning, divide for couple bowls etc.

We started adding 1/3 cup of water to her food twice a day. At first she looked at us like we were crazy but tonight she just ate it up like nothing. If this does not help I like all the suggestions and I now have plenty of other options!!

What about ice cubes as treats? My dogs are crazy for ice cubes. They get so excited when one drops on the floor from the ice maker:smile2:.

That's the first thing I thought of when I read this thread but I never suggested it because you can only feed a dog a little before they get burned out on them and one or two ice cubes wouldn't help keep a dog hydrated. But I do like to give them to my furkids when it's hot. They usualy will only eat them if there crushed though.
 
Max doesn't drink water. Period. He just never has since we got him almost 2 years ago.

So he gets canned food all mashed up with lots of water. Max actually gets soup. That's what it looks like. And when he's done, the bowl is completely empty and all the water is in him. It's the only way we can get water in him!
