Humping and heat cycles

Simba was neutered on last Monday. My female shepherd is in heat at the moment and Simba is driving her mad. He won't leave her alone and cries and scrapes the doors and walls when they are separated. How long will this stage go on for? He has been at it for about 7 days now.

Do you think during her next cycle Simba will be less inclined to hump and mount her constantly? This cycle started before he was neutered but I wasn't sure if the neutering would have any effect on him at this age (he is 15 months). My other two males where neutered at 6 months and are 2 and 11 now. The younger of the two shows a little interest in her for a occasionally and will mount her the odd time but he stops when told too and he isn't going mad to get to her.
 
Honestly I doubt it. I have an 8 year old neutered male American Eskimo. When my Sheltie Lacey went into heat he left her alone at first, but we knew when she was fertile as he kept trying to hump her.

My trainer said that even neutered males will try to breed, but they just can't reproduce. I had never heard that before.

I think it has something to do with age also. Mya had already had one cycle before Simba was neutered and was starting the second when he was done. Hopefully next time the urge just isn't as bad. He won't even leave the house to go for walks at the moment without her and I obviously am not bringing Mya to the local park or I'd have a whole load of dogs following me home so I've been taking her swimming instead and I can only do that with 1 dog at a time!

It may take some time for the testosterone to exit his body. Until that is accomplished I doubt much will slow him down. The best you can do is get her spayed asap. Until then pray she does not kill him. lol

She has been getting more and more annoyed at him as the days go on so they are being totally separated now. Unfortunately she can't be spayed so I guess we will just have to deal with it every time!
 
Testosterone takes 3 weeks to work it's way out of the body and fyi they are still fertile for that time period too with sperm stored outside the testes.

Simba may still react on your girls next cycle but his libido and intensity well be way less. It is the rare neutered sheltie that is unchanged
