I have a dribbler...and excitement pee-er

my new puppy Aidan is 10.5 weeks.

Our house training is not going so good. Granted it's only been a week. But...... This pup is a pistle and would play all day, which would be fine, except that the more he plays and gets excited, The more he does little mini pees. I try to have play time most outdoors with the big brothers, but even then he will pee two times (in small amounts) and then again indoors. Because he won't do a full pee. I try to take him outside with out the big boys, but then a bird chirps or the wind blows a leaf and he barely finishes.

Also, after naps I bring him outside to pee. And then feed dinner. Well they other dogs have got him so excited about dinner, he pees again. Inside, while I'm making dinner.

This is my 4th Sheltie. I've never had a dribbler or excited pee pup before. How to address?

Btw....as I'm typing this I now have 3 dogs inside with zoomies. Insane! And sure enough another dribble. Even though he peed 1/2 hour ago.

And yes, I'm crate training etc. So I'm doing all the obvious things. Just wondering if there is something "less obvious" I should be doing.

Thx

He's still awfully young, so I think this is probably something that he will learn to control - but you might want to have him checked by the vet to rule out any kind of physical problem or infection.

I got Kupo at 8 weeks--he is 12 1/2 weeks now--but the first 2-3 weeks I was literally taking him out every 30 minutes. He would pee all the time! I think it's just that they don't know what their boundaries are yet in a new place, and they are learning so many new things on top of that. Plus, like you said, they get distracted by just about anything while they are actually supposed to be peeing, so they don't necessarily finish?

He doesn't go in the house anymore, except in rare circumstances. Last week, I took him into a room that he had never really been in before and he went poop in there while I wasn't paying attention. I guess he didn't really get that he wasn't supposed to poop in THAT floor, lol. Then yesterday he did go in the living room floor again. But to be fair, he hadn't been out in awhile, and he had to stay in the bathroom for the whole day yesterday before that ( and he peed in the floor in there)...so it was extenuating circumstances. It just...threw him off his routine? Something like that.

Other than that, he hasn't gone inside anymore at all.

Anyway, it could be medical with your pup, but I think it's probably just new puppy syndrome :) My 2 cents...

I feel your pain! Basil, the standard poodle puppy we are raising did this for the first month and a half. He is now 4 months old and is getting better, now he only does it when he meets someone new. He is just so excited and happy that he dribbles everywhere. But yeah at first I had to take him out every 20-30 minutes and any praise while he was going would cause him to stop peeing.

Well I've started again to retrain Indy and Callan to chill out at feeding time. I can manage this in afternoon feelings but at 5:30 am I can barely make my way to find their bowls before my coffee. Usually, it's just feed them fast. Ok, retraining myself too! Lol!

Definitely need to reduce the excitement indoors. And avoid distractions outdoors. Yeah right!

The going out every 20-30 minutes is super annoying. I only get respite while he is napping which thankfully he does enough. It's while he is awake and playing that he dribbles.

I wish you luck. You may just have to put up with it until his bladder matures. I swore that Phoebe had three bladders......only one of which she would empty outside.
