I know I'm being paranoid but....

I'm doing it anyway :o I fed my boys raw for over 11 years, so no newbie here. But they were two when I switched them. Never fed a puppy raw. So I'm hovering and calculating and making myself nuts!

Fillion weighs about 5 lbs so I figured around 8 oz a day. He had chicken breast meat for breakfast and a winglet not the drumette for lunch, and gizzards for dinner. Everything stayed down and he was a REALLY happy boy eating, except the gizzard cartilage was puked up (at least I think that's what it was) at midnight. He seems fine today, gave him yogurt and egg for breakfast. Will try some more wing bones at lunch.

Does that sound reasonable for you experienced puppy feeders? I'm hoping the puke was simply a small reaction to the change over.
Also I think a flea poos more than he did yesterday and today... however what he did poo wasnt runny or boney--just tiny! LOL

I didn't start giving Dickens chicken bones until his adult teeth came in. I was concerned that his little puppy molars weren't up to the job of grinding them down sufficiently. Rather than simply giving your pup his food by weight, you might want to consider his caloric needs and adjust it that way. So far as the volume of stool goes, I'm thinking that if you're feeding him a high-protein diet, most of what he eats is going to get digested and absorbed. My last dog almost refused to eat kibble, and the little doots he left were hardly bigger than rabbit droppings. Dickens, on the other hand, gets a good grade of kibble, and his are like logs. I had to get one of those funnel-shaped devices that attach to your sewer clean-out to dispose of it all. Bagging it didn't seem an option.

Thanks for the input. After watching him yesterday, I agree with you about the bones at this point. He can't really eat the bones even if I bust 'em up with a hammer, he is just so tiny! So I ordered a bunch of ground mixes we have available from a lady in Phoenix- they are way expensive but she makes a quality product (meat, veggies and offal). I'm going to stick with ground bones until he's bigger than a dust bunny :smile2:
Re the amount, I may let him decide for awhile. I've never seen a dog walk away from raw food, but apparently since he has no competition, he ate till he was full then quit.

I tried a raw chicken thigh tonight but Chauncey didnt like it. So I scraped the chicken and cooked it and ended up throwing the bone away. I bet my cats if they could have would have happily taken a shot at it.

Wow that's different! Have you always fed kibble and that was the first piece of raw? I started my boys on wings when they were two, and they both loved them. Went from there and never looked back. They were never sick and had no allergies. Could have just been luck but I always thought the raw diet was a factor.

Probably more to do with being digestible protein than the fact that it's raw. My last dog preferred cooked meat, but he got lots of it, including chicken, beef and pork. The only sickness he ever experienced was the tumor on his spleen that killed him, and he was thirteen when he died.

Raw or cooked, its got to be better for them than processed food! I would feed cooked (and have) but since I burn salads, raw works better for me
