Innova Dry Dog Food - Red Meat (not Evo)

Does anyone feed their dog Innova Red Meat Adult Dry Dog (not EVO)? I'm debating between this and keeping her on California Natural Lamb and Rice Puppy food, which is what she is on now. This puppy food is listed as an all stages dog food. But I'm worried about the calorie intake being too high. it's over 4,000 per cup.

Here's the link for Innova

Will 24% protein be too low for her? She has a lot of energy and I'm going to start training her for agility. If it is a little too low, is there anything I can feed her to give her a boost of protein on agility training days?

4000 calories/ a cup?:eek2: Is that for California natural? Puppy food is usually between 400-500/cup.

I really like Innova. My brother dog and my dad's dog(labs) are both on Innova. I don't know if they are on regular or redmeat though. Both dogs hunt and they keep their weight and muscle tone on it.

Ember is on 26% protein food, she doesn't need the higher protein as it just gets her fat. She alittle bigger than Bailey and does obedience and agility.:smile2: I use freeze dried liver and meats(diced chicken, turkey, steak) for training day treats and that adds more protein. zukes has a nice vension and prime rib dried treat that you could use for training since bailey is allergic to chicken.:smile2:

I looked it up. Cal natural lamb and rice puppy is 535 cal/cup. The over 4000 was per kg. 26% protein 16% fat

Innova red meat is 468 cal /cup 24% protein 14% fat

So they are pretty close. The puppy food just slightly more nutrient dense.:smile2:

whoops thanks a lot for correcting me. Food analysis confuses me.

I guess I will try Innova red meat when she turns a year old. If it upsets her stomach, then I will just stick with california natural puppy food.

I don't think anyone on this forum feeds their dog this food.

My vet says that 24-26% is perfectly adequate protein.

TBD....I had to defer Bacca's bloodwork because I ran out of his his thyroid meds, and he went a few days without out. So they did not want to do his entire bloodwork again until he was back fully on his meds for another two-three weeks.

The waiting is killing me. Meantime, the jury is still out as to whether a reduced protein diet will make the difference....

I'm hoping for you, Barb!
