Intro to Rally questions

I had Kobe (15 months) in an Intro to Rally class last night but unfortunately this is a facility where two classes are taught in the same large area at the same time and I could not hear the my rally instructor. The other side was Pet Manners with the instructor on a microphone and about 20 pups in there. Plus Kobe was shaking all over from the noise of all this so I left the class and am very disappointed it didn't work out.

Anyway, she was telling us about how to start off walking with your dog. Short step with the right foot than longer strides; how to do an about turn, etc. Since I won't be going back to this class, where can I learn this introductory information? Is this only for rally or for all obedience?

Are there any books or DVDs you can recommend? He has completed his CGC but he isn't all that great at come, stay, etc. Should he have another obedience class before rally?

Thanks, everyone,
Norma

Interested too

Hmmm,
I'm interested in hearing anything as well. Indie and I have just completed our first level of obedience and are heading into Novice Rally in January. i would love to know if there are any tips that will help us.

I would recommend this book. Good for teaching all the basic behaviors for AKC and APDT rally.

I would also recommend another class so that he gets used to working in public. That class may have been too much at this point with the mircophone but trial situations for rally are often busier. There is a lot of noise and dogs about and part of training to trial in either rally or obedience is getting use to the chaos of the shows. Rare is the dog that can learn only at home and then be ok with the trial situation.

Thanks Dr. Shelli.

Even though we are Canadian, can I presume that things would be pretty similar with the signs?
