although he is well over 2 years old Jake is chewing on stuff like a puppy! One of Meg's favorite shirts, 2 snuggies, a quilt, and his leash have been ripped up. He seems to like sucking on soft objects. He has 2 stuffed animals, a rope toy, and 2 large bones to gnaw on so he has things he can chew on all he wants. Any ideas on other types of toys that might help?

Sounds like Jake is bored. I freeze a kong with canned food. That keeps Bailey entertained for at least 30 mins

Start by watching him at all times, if he goes of something he shoudn't give him a uh-uh or no and redirect him to his toys. If you can not watch him kennel him or put him somewhere he can't get into things. Do this until you are sure he won't chew on things he shouldn't. Like others have said make sure he is getting enough exercise. Most dogs chew on things they shouldn't because they are bored or they have not been properly trained not to.

I got one for Nickle, he Loves it! kept him occupied the first time for almost an hour. After that he's gotten it down to about 2 min but I just bought an addon for it to make it harder. (we got the dog tornado, I'm thinking of getting another one though he's getting too quick with the tornado)

We find that we have to keep soft plush toys and ropes away from Beckers. While he leaves our stuff alone, he shreds ropes especially -- when I cleaned up the yard, it looked like he's been doing poop-macrame! We figure it's a stage he'll pass and we keep him supplied with the toughest nylabones.

For a dog chewing actually sends out endorphins so is very calming and satisfying. Because of this anxious, stressed or bored dogs do tend to go over board on the chewing. Plus it can addictive (heck like me and my chocolate)
How does he get his dinner? Just a suggestion but have you tried giving one of his meals in a treat bottle or scattered around the yard or hidden i the house? It means he is occupied while eating, it takes longer to eat and they get more satisfaction chewing each individual piece of kibble. Plus it gives him something else to do besides chewing that gives him a pleasurable feeling. My dogs love working for their meals. They have to work for the breaky and they get rawhide every night to satisfy their need for chewing.

I will be getting him either a kong or one of the balls that dispenses food. We are also working on letting him know what is his and what is ours. When he eats he is not a hoover so i hope he will work for his treats.

On the good size luna should be out of heat soon and then they can play together more with no worries about puppies. they can only be together for about half an hour right now (highly supervised) before the vaporub scent stops fooling him.
