Just a dog....?

I seem to recall a poem about "just a dog" that would make your heart melt. My parents 13 year old lab-mix had to be put to sleep this week. And I'm looking for words to console them in their loss. They are heartbroken, but equally embarrassed about being heartbroken over their dog.

I'm trying to find the poem that "a dog being more than just a dog". Does anyone remember where to find it?

Beautiful poem that says it all.

Another site that has a lot of nice poems is Sheltie Angels Among Us. Warning: have a box or two of Kleenexes - you'll need them.

Remind your parents that Sandy was their friend, not "just a dog" and a well-loved member of their family and that all of us here grieve with them and with you.

Please tell your parents do NOT be embarassed by their grief in any way .

Before my soul mate, GR Tyler died, I read several internet articles on grieving the loss of a pet. The #1 thing I learned that was SO helpful was to "be careful who I shared my grief with". As we ALL know not everyone loves animals like your parents do or we do.

Your parents are with excellent company here on the forum and obviously you their daughter!

Please give them my deepest condolensces and lots of (((hugs)))

This one makes me cry too.

Its just so true.

I'm sorry to hear about yours and your parents loss. Please tell them they have nothing to be embarrassed about. Not everyone will understand because not everyone has experience that kind of love. But that doesn't make it strange or wrong.

Barb hugs to you and your parents from all of us. Tell them that we all understand and share their grief. It's so hard to lose the pure love of dog. They are far from being "just a dog".

Thanks for the you tube links. I remembered the words but not the video. So much more powerful with the pictures

Hugs!
