Don't you just love young Sheltie boys?? They're my favorite. 
Sounds like he's doing really well!! He sounds a lot like my puppy at 8 months. Mine is 15 months now and impressing a lot of folks with his work ethic, understanding and consistency. I'm being patient when it comes to trialing because I know it'll be worth it, but man...I'm itching to get him out. I hope you post video of your little rockstar.
