Lafayette Show & Go

Cleo2014

Greater Lafayette Kennel Club hosted a Show & Go this weekend. I was finally able to practice with Cleo in a show setting. I paid for 3 runs. 3 minutes to do whatever you wanted with the course (just not move anything). She did not do so well with the contacts for this course. It was basically three courses in one. White cups were novice, blue cups were intermediate, and red cups were advanced. It was really confusing to figure out where to go next trying to run the courses they had. They had tunnels right next to the a-frame and two under the dog walk. Cleo needs her confidence built up. Every time I put distance between her and I on that dog walk to go around the tunnels, she freaked and got back off of the dog walk. So after the first run we scrapped contacts and running the course map and worked on speed. I just ran her on tunnels, jumps and weaves. I managed to get her going pretty good. She did find a piece of cheese on the floor ( which you will see in the video) and that slowed her progress. But I got her moving and having fun and that is what counts! Below is a video of one of her runs and the course map that made me cry a little inside...

Thanks for the video
I think both did it really fine

- Cleo really trying to read your instructions / movements.
The places where she went wrong - for me to see, your instructions missing a little more accuracy. :biggrin2:

Of course., for me it will never be Cleo who made mistakes :lol:.

Exactly! I found out that my looking back at Cleo while running is also causing her to slow down and that is a habit that I need to break.

it is harder making up your own course as you go- you aren't confident of where you are going or what handling to do to get to where you want to go and the dog feels that. that makes things much less smooth than they could be. but you did seem to get Cleo going and I know that's what you were looking for.

Looking at the map that you posted- I would say that the red numbers are novice (only 15 obstacles) and the white are excellent (20 obstacles) - the blue seems to be the best flow though.....
