Lipid Keratopathy

Late last week, I noticed spots on both Liam`s corneas. Since Emma was going today for her checkup after her dental last week (she came through picture perfect the vet said), I called and asked if I could bring in Liam as well.

Liam has been diagnosed with lipid keratopathy. He has to be on drops for now and had major bloodwork done - CBC and a full panel to determine if there is something there that would explain it.

Has anyone`s Sheltie and this and how did you manage it

Liam's bloodwork was good except the cholesterol was a bit high. His CK and creatinine are running between 300 and 400. The vet actually consulted with a clinical pathologist today to determine if we should be concerned as this can be an indicator of polymyositosis, which would we would to treat. They feel Liam probably has normally elevated levels of these two items. I have been told to put him on a low fat diet however. I am trying Medi-Cal GI food right now but may consider going back to cooking for him using Hilary's Blend.

The lipid keratopathy we are treating with drops. I take him back next week for a check up.

The vet said they are similar. Liam would have to see an ophthalmologist to determine if that is what he has.
