Liver Treat = Diarrhea?

So I made some Liver Treat, recipe as follow:

Boil Pork Liver + Garlic for 5 minutes, then baked at 300C for another 30 mins.

Sammy loved it, and we went thru a bunch of training on Wednesday evening.

Next day, in the afternoon, she had her first poo accident in the crate, and the poo was soft/watery. And the soft watery poo continued in the evening and overnight (another accident). She just have a hard time holding it, usually she is pretty good at holding til schedule.

We didn't give her any of the liver treat yesterday, cuz that is the only new change of diet. So hopefully, that was the cause, and if we stop feeding, the diarrhea should hopefully stop.

But was it the liver or the garlic? Was it too much?

How much garlic did you put in? Garlic can be toxic for dogs. Some say a pinch is okay, but I wouldn't take any chances.

The liver might also be too rich for your dog. So it might be a mixture of both the garlic and liver.
 
It was the liver, for sure.

Liver is about the "richest" thing you can feed. Some dogs can never eat it because even the smallest bit causes issues.

I agree...it was probably the liver. I use it as treats but my youngest Sheltie is almost two years old. I use it sparingly while training....I try never to give too much during a training session.
 
Yup, I am happy to report Sammy's poo is 90% back to normal this evening, and she was able to go on schedule. Maybe too early for Liver. Going back to using kibble as training treat.

Definitely the liver. It's ok to use it, just use less. Vary the rewards up, and maybe use liver every few rewards. Or use it when Sammy does something AWESOME
